Ernest Hemingway Ernest Hemingway was born in 1899. His hometown was Oak Park, Illinois, which is by Chicago. He died in 1961 by suicide. Grace Hall, his mother was a musician. She was very good and took up opera. She stopped to raise a family, and from then on she was a music teacher and had a career. His dad was quiet and was a doctor. Ernest got along well with him because of their shared interest in hunting and fishing. These activities would later come up in his books. He was educated at Oak Park High School, where his first writings where in the school's magazine. His mom liked to spend money and spent too much, creating problems between her and her husband.
