Doctor Assisted Suicide Doctor assisted suicide has always been a controversial topic. Ever since Dr. Jack Kevorkian was introduced to us in newspapers and on television, and long before that, people have been debating over whether or not physician assisted suicide, or “euthanasia” should be legal. Loosely defined euthanasia is mercy killing. The person usually does this because of terminal illness that cannot be cured, and the person wants to avoid suffering. For example in class we had watched the mercy killing of Tom Youk on 60 Minutes, as I personally watched this in class I had seen his suffering he was afraid that he might choke on his on spit and just did not want to be a burden on his family not to mention all the suffering he had already been through.
