The Sixties - Years of Hope, Days of Rage Todd Gitlin grew up in Brooklyn in the 1950’s. He attended Bronx High School of Science and during his tenure, he won numerous scholarships and math awards. Todd Gitlin considered himself “studious and clean-cut”. After he graduated from high school, he attended Harvard University. During his sophomore year in 1960, he joined a Harvard-Radcliffe peace group called Tocsin. The group consisted of campus organizer-intellectuals who called themselves the “New Left”.
