Oedipus in Sophocles' tragedy Oedipus Rex is a villain for the following reason: Oedipus judges others, Oedipus is full of arrogance, and Oedipus is a murderer.
Sophocles portrays Oedipus as a villain by showing how Oedipus judges others. For example, "Rage? Why not! And I'll tell you what I think: You planned it, you had it done, you all but killed him with your own hands: if you had eyes, I'd say the crime was yours, and yours alone" (1244). Oedipus accuses Teiresias, a blind man, of being apart of the killing of King Laios. Teiresias was trying to warn Oedipus of how dangerous the truth would be if the truth were to be known.
